LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND: BOTTOM-UP ENERGY TRANSFORMATION OF LASTMILE COMMUNITIES

Work Package 1
Project management and coordination
(M1 – M48)
Project management and coordination (M1 – M48)
This WP will establish the coordination and supervision of the project activities, ensuring that proper economic and technical reporting is conducted, and that all the planned activities are being carried out without delays. This WP will also cover the procedures for data management and will set up all legal, financial and contractual aspects.
Work Package 2
Site characterization and preparation
(M1 – M12)
Site characterization and preparation (M1 – M12)
This WP aims to collect and analyse the quantitative and qualitative data, and support the decision-making process in selecting the pilot demonstration sites. VITO will be involved in the site characterization and preparation on the high level in transversal function, while MEI will maintain the on-the-ground data collector with field expertise.
Work Package 3
Stakeholder engagement, value chain development and capacity Building
(M1 – M48)
Stakeholder engagement, value chain development and capacity Building (M1 – M48)
This WP will establish a process of early and continuous engagement of key stakeholders to ensure that the pilots meet community needs, are successful in the long term and are fully accepted by local communities, and implement capacity building actions required for effective operation and long term success following the project.
Work Package 4
SWARM grid and PUE solutions development
(M3 – M23)
SWARM grid and PUE solutions development (M3 – M23)
This WP will cover the activities with the technical design based on local needs (result from WPs 2 and 3), procurement and installation of the SWARM grid, followed by the progressive technical development of the PUEs solutions.
Work Package 5
Pilots operations and SWARM-E legacy
(M13 – M48)
Pilots operations and SWARM-E legacy (M13 – M48)
WP 5 covers all the activities related to the transfer, installation and monitoring of the SWARM grid +. The plug and play components (SWARM controller, OGB containers, EV charging station) of the SWARM grid +, will be demonstrated in several sites, bringing it to TRL 8 (complete and qualified system).
Work Package 6
Regulatory issues, impact assessment and value creation
(M1 – M48)
Regulatory issues, impact assessment and value creation (M1 – M48)
WP 6 will investigate, enable and activate all the ecosystem players (public, private and beneficiaries) and processes required for the successful implementation of SWARM-E, whilst considering its replicability (within each of the demonstration countries and on the continent) and sustainability (once the pilot has concluded). Additionally, during WP 6, the impact assessment will be measured.
Work Package 7
Financial modelling, commercialisation and private sector activation
(M1 – M48)
Financial modelling, commercialisation and private sector activation (M1 – M48)
This WP will set out the details for the exploitation model for each pilot ecosystem. The methodology will provide a robust approach to the financial model design and tariffication of the pilots for financing the assets and managing and distributing revenue flows. The WP will also deliver a commercialization strategy including a funding structure, risk management, and governance for the five pilot ecosystems that can be used to underpin the SWARM-E solutions throughout Africa.
Work Package 8
Dissemination and communication
(M1 – M48)
Dissemination and communication (M1 – M48)
The main goals of this work package are to communicate and disseminate the activities and results generated in SWARM-E to target audiences and key stakeholders, as well as to engage in clustering activities. A comprehensive programme of communication, promotion and dissemination activities targeted at relevant audience will be set-up to raise project awareness and maximize its impact in the EU and Africa.
